PREPARE FOR THE EXAM (Mammogram)

Preparation :

If your breasts tend to be sensitive, it is best to avoid coffee, tea, chocolate and soda during the two weeks prior to the exam. You can take two Tylenol 1 hour before the exam.

Do not use deodorant, powder, cream or perfume on your breasts or armpits. These products cause false images that can be confused with lesions.

At the time of the exam, you will need to remove your jewelry, such as chains and earrings, and anything else that could interfere with the exam.

How to prepare for additional exams: Like many women, it is possible that you are worried about the thought of undergoing exams related to the detection of breast disease. However, it is known that the best way to combat anxiety is to prepare for these exams and get the best, most complete information possible on the subject.

Here are some suggestions on how to do so:

Make a list of all the questions you would like to ask at your doctor's appointment and during your additional exams. Do not hesitate to ask the same question more than once if you are not sure you have fully understood the answer. Likewise, feel free to note the answers that you receive.

If you wish, bring along another person, whether it is your spouse, a friend or a sister. Two people will find it easier to remember more information and details.

When you come to take additional exams, avoid wearing a dress, because you will have to undress above the waist. A two-piece outfit is more practical because you only need to remove the clothing on the top.

Do not hesitate to openly discuss your fears and concerns.

Ask how long you will have to wait for results of your exam(s). After all, there is no point in worrying after three days if the results won't be available for two weeks!

Do not worry too much. Most of the time, further tests show that there is no cancer. These exams are performed to ensure that everything is normal.

IF YOU HAVE TO UNDERGO ADDITIONAL RADIOGRAPHS, COMPLETE THE SAME PREPARATIONS AS FOR THE SCREENING MAMMOGRAM.
