The examination duration varies between 10 to 30 minutes, depending on the type of exam and the region examined.

Ultrasound involves applying a probe against the skin (gel-coated) in front of the organ to be explored. This probe emits ultrasound through the tissues which are returned as echoes. This signal is collected and analyzed by the system, which transmits a live image to be interpreted by the radiologist.

Most ultrasounds are carried out by a radiologist, some by a trained sonographer technologist.
